It had been a busy morning at work. My colleagues and I needed a break, so we decided to get brunch. Some of us wanted American food, while some were in the mood for Italian dishes. So, I browsed the internet looking for food around Lexington. I stumbled on Lex Restaurant, which served both Italian and American cuisine. Somehow, I got a homely feeling about the place, so I decided we should try it out.
I was right. The moment we walked into the restaurant we were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. The tables were set in fine China and reminded me of my grandma’s place. I could almost smell the cooking in her kitchen—it made my mouth water. The menu was clear and easy to read. For starters, I ordered steamed mussels and salad. I love eggs, so I went with my all-time favorite, pouched egg Benedict for an entrée. One of my friends ordered Caprese Salad and grilled salmon, the other asked for Maryland Crab Cakes, Grilled Portobello Sandwich and a 16oz Porterhouse Steak.
As we were waiting for the food to be served, I noticed the clean white table cloth and the rose center piece. It was simple, classy and glamorous. I could easily come back to this place. The food arrived. My mussels looked like they had arrived from the sea right that moment, and my salad was a rainbow of vegetables. The meaty mussels and crunchy salad made me feel fresh and healthy. As I looked across the table, I saw a family with two kids enjoying their meals too. The kids were having Penne Ala Vodka. It brought back memories of my childhood, and while I was taking a trip down memory lane, my Eggs Benedict appeared on the scene. My day only got better when I gently sliced into the pouched egg. It was a silky orange flowing down to meet the bacon—the softness of the egg and the salty, crispy bacon were simply made for each other. I realized that our conversations had died down because we were all so busy enjoying our food. I could see that my colleagues were enjoying themselves as much as I was.
As we wiped our mouths in satisfaction and got up to leave, we discovered that Lex Restaurant also has a food delivery service. It was just the thing we wanted to hear. I for one definitely want more of the food I had there. It is a great thing that we can order in the food when we are too busy to go out for it. The whole experience turned my ordinary day into an extraordinary one.
